Spain - Murcia City

Murcia, capital of the Autonomous Region in south-eastern Spain, is located on the banks of the River Segura. Javea Tourism

Javea is a town located mid way to Valencia from Alcante to the north of Costa Blanca. This resort seems like a dwarf in front of the mountain of Montgo and is believed that it was once an elephant, which turned into a firm rock. Tourists flock the area throughout the peak season, however this town has annulled the building of tall constructions although many towns and cities like Benidorm of Costa Blanca have high-rise buildings.

Sightseeing Santiago de Compostela

Santiago de Compostela is Galicia’s capital that offers the best of the country’s greens. The name is taken after St. James apostle whose ashes lie in the cathedral. That alone attracts religious pilgrims continuously over 10 decades.

The city’s natural heritage and culture with its beautifully preserved ancient quarters are sufficient to attract any tourist.

Appreciating Alhambra

It may be a challenging walk up the hill to Alhambra but the sight is well worth the journey. It is quite a scenic walk from the city center through a green park that has small streams flowing down along the wooded walkway. It is a hint of the magnificent view at the plateau.

The Alhambra enters to Nasrid Palace which must be enjoyed according to your ticket’s time. It is only a half hour slot allowed to view the beautiful Alhambra crown jewel. This ancient citadel houses the Torre de la Vela which gives you a great view of the city if you are gamed to climb its high stairs. If you are interested in the ancient sights and history, the Admiral’s House is a good choice. It is a 17th century building that allows exterior view only. For the avid shopper, the central market, Mercado Central, will be an interesting experience, mingling with the locals for the local wares.

The Cathedral of Huesca

In 1931 the Cathedral of Huesca was declared a historic monument, which now presents a more imperative reason to visit villas in spain and take photographs of the sights, both inside and out. This cathedral not only has an artistic aspect that can be seen by anyone, but it is also a multi-storied historic landmark that is full of life.

This region was recaptured from the Moors by Peter I for the Christians, at which point services were held in the largest of the mosques, Misleida Mosque. This practice continued for two centuries until construction of a new Gothic cathedral was begun on top of the mosque in 1294. The bishop, Jaime Sarroca, disliked celebrating Catholic services in a former mosque and initiated this construction project with the blessing of his uncle, King Jaime I. However, until the completion of the cathedral in the early 16th century, the construction continued with a succession of changes due to the different styles over this period. This has made it a unique structure which is most emblematic of the entire city.

In the early 14th century the cross vaults off the side naves were constructed along with the roof for the cathedral which was made of wood. The sculptor Guillem Ingles created the Gothic artwork which decorates the front of the cathedral. It consists of the carven images of ten angels, eight prophets and thirty other figures. The tympanum, the decorative wall surface over the entrance surrounded by a lintel and arch, is decorated with a statue of the Virgin Mary and the child Jesus. The main doorways into the church are surrounded by impressive stone carvings of the twelve apostles.

At the beginning of the 16th century, the main altarpiece of the cathedral was completed by Damian Forment, the most important sculptor of the 16th century. He designed and sculpted a large triptych from alabaster with three scenes from the Passion of Jesus Christ. This completed the construction of the cathedral at that time.

But even today, construction will continue on this impressive structure. The bell tower, which was constructed in the late 14th and early 15th centuries, was topped with a beautiful pentagonal spire which was destroyed during the Spanish Civil War and not rebuilt. However, that oversight will soon be corrected. There are plans being made for the restoration of this tower to its previous imposing stature. And if this is any indication, this will not be the last construction project for this fabulous cathedral.

Calpe tourism

Calpe has a long and interesting history concerning its famous resort town Costa Blanca which is located at a very crucial position in the coast. The town is renowned for A-one beaches, nice restaurants and above all, the mammoth rock of Penon de Ifah. This place has a well known history of Romans who created an economy prioritizing the dried fish production although evidence shows that early Iberian tribes settled in this region for the first time.  In between the 14th and 17th centuries, defenses were built to protect Calpe from the frequent attacks of the pirates.

As anticipated, there are one or two historic glimpses inside the old town. The early fifteenth century church converted from a former Moorish fort is the most well-known part of the old town of Calpe. Remarkably, the old town walls and a few parts of the church are integrated and some well conserved wood art is found inside which is believed to be from around the 15th century. There is the Museum of Archaeology located close to the remained fragments of the ancient Roman fish area and inside the villas costa blanca is the Festival Museum which exhibits more or less historical costumes worn during fiestas before. These fiestas include the highly significant Moors and Christian fiesta which is celebrated every September.

The Penon de Ifach, one of the renowned natural wonders on the Costa Blanca bestride the town of Calpe is a rock which is 1000 feet high. The magical vista views can be experienced from the summit of the rock if you are willing to climb. The entire area is now an allotted reserve which attracts some of the bird species like peregrine falcons and marine ravens. Rock of Gibraltar which looks like the Penon de Ifach has been of critical importance since early years. Several historic artifacts were uncovered from there. Some of them are Roman coinage and Greek Byzantine pottery pieces.

Tiny cloves, long white sand stretches and several very eye capturing cliffs cover more than six miles of Calpe’s varied coastline. Playa Arenal-Bol, the main beach of Calpe which is 2 km long has been honored by the European Blue Flag award. Also, separated by the Penon de Ifach from Playa Arenal-Boi is the Playa de la Fossa (Playa Levante) towards north. Both quality Calpe beaches have very clean golden sand. Playa de La includes a children’s playground and fine Spanish restaurants at the Paseo Infanta Cristina esplanade alongside. A lot of music bars make this spot an enchanting evening scene.

El Raco, Del Panyo and Playa Cantal Roig are several inlets alongside the Rock of Ifach. Puerto Pesquero has a tiny yacht marina and fishing harbor. Also, there is a sail training school, restaurants, tapas bars and fish market in the morning. There is a scuba spot famous among the diving fanatics because of the crystal clear water.

Cadiz Tourism

The acclaimed and ancient city of Cadiz is located at the tip of a narrow, rough peninsula like land that bulges out towards the Atlantic Ocean. According to ancient myth, Hercules was the first person to find this city, although in absoluteness it was the Phoenicians who first naturalized a colony here around 1100 BC, proving surely enough that it is one of the most ancient and successively inhabited places in the whole of Europe. Afterwards Romans, Goths and Carthaginians settled and abandoned the place but Cadiz did not prosper economically until the eighteenth century. The flashy Nueva cathedral’s yellow dome signifies this old town while the port is still busy today. In 1722, construction of this Baroque-style cathedral started but lack of money caused the construction to eventually finish in 1853. The crypt has the renowned composer Manuel de Falla’s tomb. Staged over three floors which contain a fine collection of paintings by Zurbaran, Rubens and Murillo is the Cadiz Museum located side by side to the birthplace of Manuel de Falla. Also, there is an exhibit of Roman, Greek, and Phoenician historical artifacts that have been cut from just about the province. Another museum, Museo de las Cortes de Cadiz is great for visiting. This museum traces back the legend of the town which failed to create a new democratic constitution in 1812 at the time when Spain was still on negative terms with France.

Playa de la Caleta, the main Cadiz beach is located adjacent to the Barro de la Vina domain of the old town. When the magnificent dragon trees are floodlit in the dark evening, the scene is enchanting. Recently, the beach was the focus of attraction as it was the shooting location for a James Bond film with Halle Barry who acted like Ursula Andress emerging from the ocean. In summer, this beach gets very busy so if you want, the outstanding alternative would be checking out quieter Playa de la Victoria beach. Near the harbor, the bars and clubs own the nightlife.

In February, one of the largest and finest carnivals in Spain takes place. This festival is marked by numerous parades, gigs, processions, fancy dress exhibits and competitions. For this 10-day celebration, local inhabitants work hard for months on the costumes they are going to put on. Tourists from all over Andalucia are attracted by the carnival so it will be wiser to book early in advance as the hotel rooms are normally booked up.

Only a short walk from the city, Plaza San Juan de Dios, Cadiz train station is located which operates a frequent service to Seville, Jerez de la Frontera and also the nearest resort of El Puerto de Santa Maria.

Spain - Catalonia

The majestic country of Spain has varied and beautiful landscapes. There is not a single place in  holiday villas spain which does not have something fascinating about it.  Here we talk about the beautiful place of Catalonia, located on the French border.

Santillana del Mar

Santillana del Mar is an ancient town situated in the Spanish town communities of the Cantabria. It was named after the ninth century monastery that housed the remains of the martyr St. Iuliana. Santillana del Mar retains the intense fascination of an ancient town and certainly is at the heart of tourism.
