Spending time in San Sebastian

The amazing resort

San Sebastian is definitely the most important resort in the Basque country, the queen of all those hosted here. The summers are hot here while the winters are very mild, so those who love the sun and its warmth are extremely attracted by this amazing place. In addition to the wonderful climate, San Sebastian has deep but crystal clear waters in the spectacular bay that bathes the beautiful beaches while the surrounding landscape is dominated by lush hills that create very picturesque views. If you decide to visit San Sebastian in July or August, do expect to find huge crowds gathered in the city from all the corners of the world. Mid August is the most wonderful time to visit San Sebastian due to the fact that this is the time when the Semana Grande takes place.

The Semana Grande is an entire week of partying in the typical Spanish style with lots of good music, food and drinking plus a lot of unique fireworks shows. August the 31st is the day when the inhabitants of San Sebastian celebrate a tradition that has been present in the life of the city since 1813: this is the year when San Sebastian was devastated by an immense fire, so the disaster is commemorated by a fascinating candlelit ceremony.

San Sebastian’s attractions

The Santa Clara Island became popular because of its incredible beauty, a picturesque place that you will immediately adore. Located in the heart of the La Concha Bay, the island is the place where tourists love to go because it has some amazing beaches. The Zurriola Bridge is one of the most impressive attractions in San Sebastian; the bridge has unique expressionist and futuristic lamps that create a unique view, especially when the evening comes. The Town Hall has a very interesting history; it was inaugurated in 1897 as a casino; however gambling was prohibited in 1924, so the casino was renovated and transformed into what it is today: the building that leads the entire life of San Sebastian.

The beaches represent the biggest attraction in San Sebastian; the three that stay at your disposal fit the preferences of any tourist. For example, Ondaretta is suitable for swimming; La Concha is for the wild and crazy who just want to party while Playa de Gros is the less crowded, the most relaxed one. Try them! I am sure that you will have a great time.
